Getting Around Bali with Family Choosing the Best Means of Transport

Bali is a great family destination, with a rich culture, lovely people, and varied landscapes. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, you’ll find what you’re looking for. However,t you’ll need to choose the right mode of transport to have a great stay without any hassle! In this article, we explore the different options for getting around Bali with your family so that you can choose the most suitable means of transport according to your desires.

Getting around Bali by scooter the local way!

The scooter is the most used mode of transport by the Balinese, they are everywhere, and it is very common to see entire families traveling on scooters, with 4 people on them (something unimaginable in France!). Getting around on a scooter is an incomparable feeling of freedom; as far as we are concerned, it is a way of getting around that we love, even with our children. On the other hand, you should not have any luggage, because 2 adults and 2 children (not too big) on a scooter are fine, but with luggage, it is no longer possible (or you have to take 2 scooters: one adult and one child per scooter, and very light bags). This mode of travel is, in my opinion, more suited to daytime explorations because it is logistically complicated when you have to lug your things between two accommodations. In my opinion, you also have to be, already used to driving a scooter, especially if you have your children on it! Driving is on the left, there are people on the roads, and you have to be comfortable on a scooter to avoid the risk of an accident and returning to square one (i.e. home).

Getting around Bali with your family by Grab Taxi A Practical and Economical Alternative

The Grab app is widely used in Asia, it’s super easy to find your driver in two clicks, and there’s hardly any waiting time as there are so many people connected. The big advantage is that the price is announced beforehand, and it is hyper-competitive, so we are sure not to be scammed. This allows you to travel easily by car, without having to drive, and with space for the whole family and luggage. Good to know: To use the Grab app, an internet connection is required! You must therefore have cellular data on your phone. 2 options: buy a SIM card oon-site(a physical SIM card that will be installed in your phone instead of your French SIM) and choose the appropriate mobile data plan (with a limited number of gigas), or buy an eSIM card: the advantage of the eSIM is that it can be installed before arrival (so you can activate it upon arrival, without wasting time at the airport) and that it gives access to an unlimited internet connection with the best network in the country. We particularly recommend the Holafly eSIM, for Bali the price is for example 34 euros for 10 days. Using the Grab app is more complicated in remote areas especially because there are fewer drivers. In addition, it is possible to have no network in some places, so you cannot use the app! The Grab application should therefore be used more in tourist areas, but should be avoided if you want to travel off the beaten track to avoid finding yourself in trouble with a driver…

Renting a Car to Travel Around Bali with Family Freedom and Flexibility for Adventurous Families

The advantages of renting a car in Bali

Renting a car in Bali offers total freedom and flexibility to explore the island at your own pace, being able to easily get off the beaten track. It’s a mode of transport that we love, we are fans of road trips! The big advantages of renting a car are for us: leaving at the time we want without having to plan it carrying our things easily, and going wherever we want! Being able to make a detour but if it was not planned, stopping longer at this or that place according to the encounters… being flexible in other words!

Car Rental in Bali

For years we have had total confidence in BSP Auto, which accompanies us on all our trips. BSP Auto is a comparator that allows you to find the cheapest car rentals on the market thanks to the agreements they have with rental agencies. The reservation system is super efficient, the rentals are always with unlimited kilometers, and it is possible to cancel for free if you have a change of plans.

The Disadvantages of Renting a Car in Bali

Driving in Bali can be chaotic, and is done on the left (cars are manual so you have to change gears with your left hand), so it takes some getting used to, which can be stressful for some drivers.

Getting around Bali with family by car with a driver The preferred choice for families

The advantages of traveling with a driver in Bali

Choosing a car with a driver offers appreciable comfort and safety, especially when traveling with children. It is the perfect solution to let yourself be carried away, especially as part of a trip organized by an agency, which takes care of concocting a carefully designed itinerary for us. We experienced this type of family travel during a tour organized by the agency Les Nouvelles Terres, which took us to meet the locals for a 100% authentic immersive stay. Our guide, Yoko, was adorable and spoke French, which was great so that the children could understand all the stories he told us! The huge advantage of being accompanied by a driver guide is to learn a lot about the local culture at each stage . Yoko accompanied us on the different stages of our tour, leading us from discovery to discovery, and in accommodation with the locals. The program was defined but the schedules were flexible, so we still kept flexibility on departure times, more or less long breaks, etc.
